Golf bursaries
The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews (R&A) have two schemes operating in universities. Any full-time student in tertiary education playing at national standard may apply for a personal Foundation Bursary. In addition, a small number of universities, including the University of St Andrews, receive a grant from the R&A to run a golf development programme.
Foundation Bursaries
Students who have been identified by their national governing body and offered a place in a training squad, or who hold a handicap of +1 or better for men, 3 or better for women, may apply for a personal grant. Application forms are available from the Director of Golf Development at the R&A, and on the R&A website at www.randa.org.
University Bursary Programme
The University of St Andrews receives a grant annually from the R&A to fund a golf development programme for talented golfers and this is one of the leading golf programmes in the UK. The programme is administered through the Department of Sport and Exercise and is open to any matriculated student who reaches the required standard as described below. Golf bursars must achieve the required grades for entrance and pursue the normal University programme. No academic dispensations are given to bursars.
