University of St Andrews World Record Attempt

Tuesday 05 February 2013

On Sunday 10th March 2013 at 2pm on South Street....St Andrews will play host to a great event and challenge!

The University and town of St Andrews are hoping to break the Largest Scottish Country Dance record by 'stripping the willow' . The record that needs to be beaten is 1,914 people and this record was set in Edinburgh on 30th December 2000. It's no easy task to beat this record and it will need all hands on deck and as many people as possible to make sure they turn up on the day if we are to beat this! As such we're hoping to get as many schools, community groups and of course all students and staff from the University behind it as possible. Sports clubs, societies and all other students are asked to really help drum up support among their members for this event and will be kept informed of ways in which they can participate.
The event aims to celebrate the University of St Andrews 600th anniversary and raise awareness of the Healthy Body Healthy Mind award, which the university supports in conjunction with Scottish Student Sport. However we also want to make it a real town and gown event and get the whole community involved. I think this a great opportunity to do something really special in St Andrews and hope you do too!

The facebook page for this is now live so please 'like' this so that you can stay up to date with plans and information for the day:

Much more information will be released soon - get excited!!!
