Big BUCS win for Water Polo

Saints Men opened up their 2012/13 BUCS campaign with a resounding win over a physical Glasgow side at St leonards Pool in St Andrews tonight. A full strength Saints line up started well with goals from Miles Radcliffe Trenner and Nick Froy helping to settle the home team. It was a rough affair with both teams aware of what was at stake and Saints Finn Stevenson scored an excellent 3rd goal for the first period to end at 3-1 to Saints.

Saints were pressing hard and counter attacking on every possession and a smart goal from Miles kept Glasgow on the back foot as the half came to a close Saints were 5-2 in front and on cruise control.

The second half saw Glasgow start to come back into the game trading goals with Saints, there were multiple exclusions on both sides as the game threatened to boil over with some bad blood between the teams, the third period ended with an excellent goal from Razvan Ghita who converted a fine pass from Callum Imrie and Saints were 9-5 to the good.
Saints had been playing the entire bench and its showed in the final period as George Galos converted a fine move followed by goals from Finn Stevenson and Nick Froy, a 12-5 final scoreline was no more than Saints deserved for their efforts and the BUCS campaign was off to a winning start.

Saints Men now face Bradford and Northumbria for a place in the BUCS semi final tournament.

Saints Women 19 – RGU 3

After two big wins this week from the Men’s 1st and 2nd teams, the pressure was on as the ladies lined up to take on RGU. The Saints started the game right with a quick goal by Nicole off of a great assist by Meredith Monroe. The momentum continued throughout the rest of the game with countless counter attacks and solid goals by leading scorers Nicole, Meredith and Hilary Harvey. Becca Blatz contributed several shots as well along with a debut goal by Alexis Levengood. Claire Simon, Victoria Stewart and newbie Stefaniya Moroz played solid defence to keep the Saints on top. In the final seconds of the game, star fresher Kate Pence fired a shot into the back of the net to put an nice exclamation point on a great 19-3 victory. Team captain Tess Herzenberg thinks this win has put the girls back on track and hungry for the their next victims: Stirling.

Saints Mens 2′s Triumph over Aberdeen 1st – Saints 9-7 Aberdeen

Saints mens 2′s finally delivered. The performance they have been due with a thrilling 9-7 win over Aberdenn at St Leonards Pool last night.

Following on from the narrow loss to RGU Saints showed that they could deliver. Goals from freshman Will Thomson, Gordon MacCracken and Sam Schmid settled Saints as they took the game to Abderdeen. The game ebbed an flowed but it was Saints who won all of the individual battles and througholy deserved the victory.

Captain Stephen Jarvie was delighted at the end ” it was another tough match, but I knew the guyswoul come out on top, I am delighted for all of my team mates who have been working for this “. “we are looking forward to the next match, it cant come quick enough”.
