Football for the Future
Thursday 04 October 2012
Football for the Future is a community project that uses football and fitness training to help underprivileged children and teenagers in an isolated village on the Caribbean coast of Colombia. The project is important for the young people of the community because it keeps them healthy and off the streets, away from crime and the drugs trade which are often the only option to escape from the poverty in the region. Without sports these young people have nothing to do, many do not attend school, and often teenagers get involved in crime. The children are encouraged to attend school, and the trainers provide good role models who the children respect and go to for guidance.
Football for the Future is looking for volunteers who will ideally have experience in fundraising and/or organising events. Volunteers will need to be creative with their ideas, and will form an integral part of the fundraising team. They will be expected to commit to attending meetings to discuss ideas and plans, and to help with organising fundraising events throughout the year. There is also the possibility that some volunteers might like to visit the project over the Summer, to help with training, teaching or first aid.
