The Positions
Strength and Conditioning
Alasdair Hardie and Harry Duthie are working with the DSE in all areas related to strength and conditioning of student athletes. Under the direction of Allan Gartshore, they are being equipped to assist in the delivery of strength and conditioning sessions to individuals and Focus Sports Clubs. As their skills develop, they will be creating and leading sports specific strength and conditioning programmes. Alasdair and Harry are working towards becoming fully accredited UKSCA strength and conditioning coaches by the end of the year. In the future, they will mentor incoming Interns after the completion of their first year at the DSE.
Fitness and Conditioning
Samantha Barnwell and Georgia Wade are focusing on the promotion of health and fitness at the University, to all students, staff and community members. The girls have been trained to carry out fitness suite inductions, exercise consultations and personal exercise plans. At the heart of this role, Samantha and Georgia are supervising fitness suites, offering advice and providing a point of contact so that facilities are used safely and effectively, to maximise your workout at the Sports Centre.
Sports Physiology
Gavin Stephenson is working directly with Debby Sargent, the Performance Sport Manager to increase the provision of sports analysis available to Focus Clubs and individual Sports Scholars. Gavin is being trained to use sports analysis software to dissect footage with the aim of providing coaches and athletes with specific information that will help develop effective training strategies and identify areas for fitness development. He will be responsible for providing regular fitness testing of squads and individuals for benchmarking and monitoring purposes as well as providing feedback to coaches, athletes and the Performance Sport Manager.
Website and Promotions
Laura Fisher is working the the DSE, AU and SSS staff to manage and develop the Sports Centre website as well as improving media coverage. Her initial focus is working alongside Project Zambia, as the Marketing Director, to help develop their promotions and increase awareness of the project. Laura will also be developing a monthly Sport Centre e-newsletter that will include coverage of key sports fixtures, events and related information. In addition, she will be overseeing the day-to-day updating of the University Sport website.
