Marathon run of September science festivals

There was no stopping the 'Seeing life through a new light' project team in September as they presented their activities at a staggering number of science festivals and other events all around the UK. Claire Patterson and Eddie Tan kicked off the marathon run of outreach events by presenting 'science in a shopping centre' in the Kingsgate centre, Dunfermline as part of the Carnegie festival. Next stop was Orkney where Claire was joined by Jörg Baumgartl and Craig McDougall. The team delivered presentations to school pupils in Kirkwall Grammar followed by a a public lecture and a day of hands-on activities for all the family.

Meanwhile, Dave Carnegie, Dave Stevenson and Nan Ma were on route to Liverpool for the BA Festival of Science where they were joined by Claire for four days of interactive science activities in the hands-on zone.

Events closer to home this September included a public lecture in Satrosphere and a presentation to S5 and S6 pupils at Bridge of Don Academy as part of the Techfest festival. The final festival for the team was Science in September, where a number of primary school shows were delivered in Ardler primary school in Dundee by Claire, Leilani Torres and Christopher Leburn.

The month ended with three days of primary school workshops in Sensation science centre, Dundee delivered by Claire, Steve Lee, Xanthi Tsampoula and Rob Marchington.

As if this wasn't enough to keep the team busy there were also visits to Age Concern in Cadham and a probus club in Newport-on-Tay!

All team members put in a huge amount of effort, gained invaluable experience and had a lot of fun. The feedback was fantastic.. so well done everyone!!!
