The St Andrews Sustainability Institute (SASI) is a group of people at the University of St Andrews who are working towards a sustainable future for everyone.
We are working towards this sustainable future by doing the classic things a university does - teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students, researching stuff, and knowledge transfer (sharing the knowledge with people other than students) as well as trying to be sustainable ourselves.
But why a picture of a boat, rather than a more conventional "green image" of a tree, the planet or whatever?
Well, "Beechnut" belongs to Georgina (SASI administrator) and David (University Energy Officer), and we at SASI rather liked the photo. However, what also struck us was that a boat on the sea is a useful analogy, not only for the journey that needs to be taken to realise a sustainable future, but also as an illustration of how even small actions can ripple across the sea to distant horizons.
We have aimed to make our website accessible and explain not only what we do but also why we do it and what inspires us. Take a look around, and don't hesitate to get in touch - we'd like to hear from you.
