In each of the UK Research Assessment Exercises to date, the School has been ranked among the very best in the UK. The latest Assessment was in 2008 and we maintained our very strong position. Highlights include:
- St. Andrews remains the top psychology department in Scotland
- St. Andrews is ranked 7th out of 76 Psychology departments in the UK
- 100% of our overall returns are ranked at 'international' level
- 100% of our lecturing staff were included
- We are one of only five departments to meet the criteria which would have led to the award of the top 5* rating in 2001
In addition to the School's research groups listed below, researchers are also involved in
institutes, centres and research partnerships with many others, nationally, and internationally.
We have a thriving postgraduate community, and research fellowships and vacation scholarships are regularly provided from the research councils and through
internal University funding. Our research facilities have
recently been refurbished to a very high standard and weekly research
seminars are held during University terms.
If you are interested in participating in ongoing studies within the School please join our
Research Participation System. Research within the School is carried out in compliance with the appropriate ethical bodies, UTREC and AWEC. Animals in Research outlines the procedure for submitting a proposal for animal research. The School follows the BPS code of ethics and conduct.
