Dig deep for Rag Week

Friday 01 February 2013

RAG Week (1-9 February) kicks off in St Andrews this weekend with a host of great events for town and gown alike.

The University of St Andrews' Charities Campaign's annual week of Raising and Giving sees students try to raise as much money as possible for charity. From 1-9 February there will be numerous events running in the Union's Venue 1 & 2, as well as around the town.

The Campaign has partnered up with the Fine Food and Dining Society for another year to create the Fine Food Fayre, this time to be held in Younger Hall on Sunday 3rd February. But that's not all - the traditional RAG treats return, such as St Andrews Got Talent, Disney Bop and CATWALK all taking place throughout the week. Watch out for regular appearances of the Campaign's mascot, Rory McLion (pictured above), around the town.

RAG Week raises money for the Charities Campaign's six nominated charities (as chosen by the students): Medecins Sans Frontieres; Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI); Maggie's Cancer Caring Centre Fife; Children's Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS); Macmillan Cancer Support and Families First. There are also several other causes that are supported throughout the week, including UNICEF and the Class Gift, the proceeds of which go to the Students' Association Bursary Fund.
