Chinese students bring St Andrews to a standstill

Chinese students brought the St Andrews population to a standstill with a special flashmob to promote Chinese New Year and the Year of the Dragon.

Organised by the Chinese Hongpao Society, in association with the Ballroom and Latin Dancing Society and the University of St Andrews Alumni Association of China, more than 100 people took part in the flash mob dance in Church Square.

The celebrations will culminate on Wednesday 29 February when the Society will take over the Union with a special Chinese Lantern Bop.

The Lantern Festival, which is on the 15th day of the Lunar New Year, is the last day of the new year celebration signifying family reunion and the start of the spring.

This year, the Bop, which is open to all students, will feature Chinese pop, massive lantern decorations and Chinese delicacies.

Complimentary Tangyuan (traditional lantern festival food) and souvenir for all entrants.
