Thumbs up for student fundraisers.
St Andrews students raise over £25,000 for charity.
Wednesday 01 February 2012
Intrepid St Andrews students taking part in this year’s Race2Barcelona event have raised over £25,000 for charity by hitchhiking across Europe.
With each student talking part successfully raising a minimum sponsorship of £100 before even setting off, it is estimated that the total sum raised will reach over £30,000 over the coming days – almost doubling their target figure of £17,000.
The winning team – a combination of two teams – made it to the finishing line at around 8am on Wednesday morning (25 January), with the remainder of the competing 205 students arriving safely by Saturday.
The annual event, organised by the student-led Charities Campaign, is fundraising for charities including Cancer Research UK, Children’s Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS) and the RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution).
Supporters can still send donations via Vodafone’s JustTextGiving free donation service by texting RACE23 £5 to 70070.
