A roaring success for University of St Andrews Charities Campaign
Tuesday 27 September 2011
Rory McLion, the University’s charities mascot, joined members of the student-run charities campaign group this week to celebrate a record-breaking fundraising success.
The 2010-2011 charity campaign has raised £97,000 for their six nominated charities; the highest amount ever raised in the campaign’s history.
Those to benefit are Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres Fife, Build Africa, Médecins Sans Frontières, the Royal National Lifeboat Institute, Children’s Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS) and Trekstock.
Michael Koudounas the new President of the campaign said:
“I am delighted that we have made campaign history, it stands as a testament to the diligence, determination and care shown by the students, who donate their time to raise money for and give to charity. I would also like to thank all the businesses and people who supported us to reach this record breaking achievement.”
Tumong Edwards Community Fundraiser Maggie’s Fife said:
“This is an incredible amount to raise. Maggie’s Fife is delighted to be one of the beneficiaries this year and we are over the moon the students have voted to support us for the second year running. I know they have worked really hard – fellow students, the university and local community should be so proud.”
Charities campaign members organise various activities throughout the year including an annual summer fair, RAG week – a week-long calendar of activities – and a range of sponsored races. Their aim is to raise money for good causes locally, nationally and abroad.
