Thursday 19 May 2011
Recipients of the Canadian Robert T. Jones Jr Scholarship at a reception hosted by the Principal Professor Louise Richardson in St Mary’s College Hall.
Nine St Andrews students set to study at the University of Western Ontario and Queen’s University next academic year, and eight students from Western and Queen’s who have spent this year studying at St Andrews, were welcomed by the Professor Richardson, who congratulated them on being awarded a place on the exchange programme and the prestigious scholarship.
Each year five students from Western and three from Queen’s are selected to study at St Andrews while eight St Andrews students are chosen to go to Canada. The Canadian Robert T. Jones Jr Scholarship Foundation, established in 1991, supports the exchanges, providing each student with a generous scholarship. The scholarship helps all participating students gain as much as possible from the year and, importantly, enables students to participate who could not otherwise afford to study abroad.
The majority of St Andrews students selected to participate in the University’s Canadian exchanges next year comes from the Science Faculty, reflecting a growing interest in opportunities to study abroad from students across science subjects.
The lunch was also attended by Dr Frank Quinault, a member of the Board of Directors of the Scholarship Foundation; and staff from the Exchanges & Study Abroad team.
