Mermaids Theatre Fund celebrates its 90th birthday

The cast of She Stoops To Conquer, produced by the University's first student Dramatic Society.

Founded in 1879, the Dramatic Society became the Mermaids Theatre Society in 1919, producing small one act plays in the first semester followed by a larger production in the summer.

Today, Mermaids supports over 20 productions a year both in St Andrews and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and has found a home in the Barron Theatre on North Street, St Andrews first dedicated student theatre.

One of the oldest student drama societies in Britain, Mermaids celebrates its 90th birthday this week with events to commemorate the founding of the society.
