St Andrews' academic inspires Iggy Pop.

Iggy pop and Michel Houellebecq

Iggy Pop's new album Preliminaires was created following the singer's reading of St Andrews' lecturer Dr Gavin Bowd's work.

Pop had read Dr Bowd's translation of French writer Michel Houellebecq's novel La Possibilité d'une île'; soon after, he met the infamous author and the idea for Preliminaires was born.

Listen to Dr Bowd talk about his role in the story.
