Gordon Stevenson wins the Boyd Quaich Memorial Golf Tournament
The 61st Boyd Quaich Memorial Tournament was won by St Andrews student Gordon Stevenson, pictured here with Principal Dr Louise Richardson.
The international competition for young golfers is run by the Athletic Union of the University of St Andrews, with support from the Royal and Ancient Golf Club and the St Andrews Links Trust.
A close competition with a tense finish, Stevenson managed to clinch his victory with a score of 69 - 3 under par, and 4 strokes ahead of runner up Matthew Williams of Aston University. Stevenson's total score of 284 was just one stroke higher than the tournament record of 283 strokes set in 1994 by C Sanderson (Stellenbosch) and equaled by G. Duncan (Heriot Watt) in 2002.
The international field of 71 golfers each completed 18 holes on the New course and 18 holes on the Old Course, before the top 30 competitors played a further 18 holes on each course.
