Celebrations will be held in St Andrews from 11th-14th September to mark the 150th anniversary of the University's oldest sports society.
The University of St Andrews Rugby Football Club, one of the oldest clubs in Scotland, was founded in 1858. A programme of events is planned to mark this important milestone including an international match at University Park and an Alumni weekend.
On Saturday 13th September The South African Rugby Legends will challenge the Scottish Legends. Members of the public are invited to come and watch the match between the teams of ex-internationalists.ing the morning of the Legends fixture, the University Rugby Club will host a Rugby Coaching Clinic for 250 local children between the ages 7-12. This session will be run by the South Africa Rugby Legends, local SRU Development Officers, the University 1st XV coach and other local club coaches. It aims to enhance rugby skills in the development of future rugby stars.
A game between the University's 1st XV and the St Andrews Legends will also take place during the alumni weekend.
Activities will culminate in a large fundraising Sportsman's Dinner at The Fairmont St Andrews Hotel. Guests will include South African and Scottish Rugby Legends as well as St Andrews Old Boys.
The Alumni weekend, including the 150th Celebration Dinner, South Africa Legends v Scotland Legends game and a Sesquicentennial Magnum Golf Challenge will take place from 11th-14th September.
