The University was founded in August 1413 by Papal Bull.
On 28 August, 1413, the Bull of Pope Benedict XIII (of Avignon) was signed, ratifying the founding of the University of St Andrews. The official records of the University include the original Papal Bull of Foundation (pictured). Preparations are currently underway for the celebration of the University's 600th anniversary.
