This image, taken from the University's Special Collections, is thought to be the first group of women students to graduate from St Andrews in 1896.

According to the University archives, 'one woman student received the degree of Master of Arts' (Agnes F Blackadder of Broughty Ferry) in 1895 'but her attendance and her course of studies were exceptional'.

The University first admitted female students in 1892.
