B/W photo of St Salvator's College, North Street, St Andrews 1846

St Andrews University holds an internationally renowned archive of early photography. This stems from the fact due to the initiative of Principal Sir David Brewster, St Andrews played a vital role in the development of photographic processes.

This photograph (Ref: ALB22-2) of St Salvator's College in 1846 by D O Hill and R Adamson, shows the medieval building on the west side, containing common schools (with library on upper storey) and on the north side the domestic block, ca.1757 (built to accommodate United College). Neither building remains. The site of the old domestic block is now occupied by Lower College Hall.
