PhD Studentships

PhD & EngD Application Routes

We have a number of different application schemes through which the School allocates doctoral studentship places. You can APPLY HERE for a PhD place in all research areas.

International applicants may also wish to consider the SUPA prize studentship scheme

There are also discipline-specific studentships through three Doctoral Training Centres:

Every year we have a number of funded PhD studentships in physics and astronomy. These usually start in September, but some may be available immediately. These studentships are funded by EPSRC, STFC, SUPA, the European Commission and other bodies, and commonly last for 3.5 years.

All our PhD students are trained within the SUPA Graduate School, which provides advanced courses to support their research studies. Our Postgraduate Brochure gives an overview of research areas, funding routes and life as a postgraduate research student in St Andrews.
