Photonics Engineering Doctorate Studentships
What is an EngD?
The EngD is a 4-year doctoral degree at an equivalent level of a traditional PhD but with the additional benefit of providing essential experience in industry. Approximately 75% of the time is dedicated to research work, usually based at the premises of the sponsor company, with the remaining time being spent on taught coursework.
We are part of the Photonics Engineering Doctorate Programme run jointly by Heriot-Watt, Strathclyde, and ourselves. The EngDoc has a similar status to a PhD degree, but students spend much of their time working on research and development projects in industry, along with photonics and management teaching at the Universities.
