Apply here for a PhD

The School welcomes postgraduate applications from well-qualified students. Successful applicants for PhD or EngD study will normally have a first or upper-second class degree in physics, astronomy or a related subject.The standard application process for PhD studentships in all research areas in the School is explained below.

(You may alternatively apply for a SUPA Prize Studentship, or to a discipline-specific Doctoral Training Centre in Condensed Matter Physics, in Magnetic Resonance, or an Engineering Doctorate in Photonics.) 

Application Procedure for a PhD studentship in Physics & Astronomy

  1. Fill in the editable pdf application form, save it, and press "submit form" at the bottom of the final page. This will launch an email from your email client to resapp@st-andrews.ac.uk and automatically attach the form.
  2. Attach your CV, academic transcript, and evidence of English language proficiency (if appropriate) to the same email and send.
  3. Fill in the top part of the reference form, and send a copy to each of your referees, for them to return directly to the University.
