MSc in Photonics and Optoelectronic Devices

Taught Postgraduate MSc

Overview

This is a twelve-month taught MSc including a 3.5-month industrial project.

The course is run jointly by this School and the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences in Heriot-Watt University, giving students access to the broad and somewhat complementary range of photonics expertise at the two sites. The course provides postgraduate vocational training in lasers, modern optics and semiconductors, tailored to the needs of the optoelectronics and optical communications industries, as well as a good training for a research degree in this field.

News:- January 2013 - Tuition fee support is now available for up to six students from Scotland and from the non-UK parts of the European Union.

Applications for the MSc in Photonics and Optoelectronic Devices are handled on alternate years by the School and Heriot-Watt University. For 2013 entry, applications should be made to Heriot-Watt University. For 2014 entry, applications will be made to St Andrews.

For entry on odd-numbered years applications should be made to Heriot-Watt University. People are advised to follow the "Apply Now" link on the Photonics and Optoelectronics MSc page on the Heriot-Watt site.

For entry on even-numbered years people are encouraged to apply to this programme online using the University of St Andrews online application form (link is top right of main table, "online application" in the "Taught Masters" row). The application details will come to this School of Physics and Astronomy and will be considered by the admissions committee for the programme. We anticipate being able to make some offers to excellent candidates in December/January, with offers to others being sent out from then till early summer. Early application is advised.
