MSc Application Process, 2013 and 2014 entry

For those considering 2013 entry:-

People wishing to apply for entry to the 2013-14 course should apply via Heriot-Watt University, via the MSc page on their site.

For those considering 2014 entry:-

Potential students are welcome to visit to see some of the facilities here. If they visit, they may also wish to arrange a meeting with the University's postgraduate admissions team, who may be contacted on pgrecruitment@st-andrews.ac.uk

People are encouraged to apply to this programme online. The University has an online application form available. (link is top right of main table, "online application" in the "Taught Masters" row

 

The application details will come to this School of Physics and Astronomy and will be considered by the admissions committee for the programme. We anticipate being able to make some offers to excellent candidates in December/January, with offers to others being sent out from then till early summer. Early application is advised.

Applicants from the UK should have at least a 2ii degree in physics or electrical engineering or related, with the best qualified students likely to have priority. Applicants from other countries should possess similar qualifications, and will also need to show evidence of competence in the English language. Applicants should be aware that this is a physics-based degree, so a good working knowledge of physical and mathematical concepts is needed.

The UK Borders Agency has requirements on the proven abilities of students in English. These are a sometimes a little higher than the requirements that this University used to state in order that students could benefit fully and immediately from instruction here. We understand that the UK Borders Agency needs qualification similar to the following:-

  • IELTS 7.0 overall, with a minimum of 6.0 in each category
  • TOEFL Internet Based 105 minimum
  • TOEFL Paper Based 620 minimum

If potential students need additional work on their English language this University and many others run English language programmes before the start of the academic year.
