Isla Simpson, who joins us from Kingussie, is in her final (MPhys) year.  She says

"When considering my university choices my decision was made a lot easier when I attended an open day and found the friendly and enthusiastic atmosphere of the physics department very appealing.  Not for one second have I regretted my choice of coming here.  I find the town perfect for combining both study and fun.  With all the societies and sports clubs I am never bored. I have been an active member of the University Badminton team, which has given me the opportunity to meet new people and gain new skills.

I decided to take the direct entry into second year option and although challenging, I have certainly enjoyed my time here so far.  I was one of a group of about 30 direct entry students and found that every effort was made to make us feel at home right from the beginning.  The courses are very flexible and it is easy to change degrees within the School, which I found particularly useful when deciding which degree to follow.  I chose Astrophysics, which has been great so far.  I am currently in my MPhys year, which I feel is giving me valuable experience in research through the project, which is worth half the year. Choosing to follow the MPhys course also allows you to study a wider variety of subjects and take more advanced courses. I would definitely recommend St Andrews for someone considering a degree in physics or astronomy."
