Terahertz technology

Smith, Jim Lesurf, and their team are internationally
known for their work in mm-wave technology. This is the
part of the electromagnetic spectrum lying between the
infra-red and microwave regions. They use a mix of waveguide
and bulk optics. The team builds the sources
and quasi-optical elements that are used. A variety of
high frequency diagnostic equipment is in use.
This
technology can be used for a wide range of applications,
from pure science looking at the way that chemicals interact
to applied science such as in their use in monitoring
the domes of volcanoes, as pictured to the righ.
