BSc and MPhys

The BSc is the standard degree that is offered, and is of a comparable standard to other first degrees across other subjects and other Universities.

The MPhys (Master in Physics) is also a first degree, but to a more advanced level than the BSc. The MPhys (or MSci in some institutions) is seen as being particularly appropriate for those intending to be professional physicists.

The requirements for these degrees are the same in year one and year two.  Those students who have done sufficiently well at the end of level two are offered the choice of entry to the BSc or MPhys programmes. BSc (honours) students graduate at the end of year four; MPhys students do not graduate at this point but continue their studies for one more year to get a classified MPhys honours degree.  In the additional MPhys year the students take a number of  advanced modules and undertake a more ambitious project than the BSc students.
