Research - information

The group's research covers many aspects of nonlinear optics, in particular, parametric generation techniques for the frequency conversion of coherent laser sources. Through the implementation of various nonlinear parametric devices, usually a variants of optical parametric oscillator designs, we have covered a wide range of spectral and temporal domains. Importantly, spectral regions that suffer from "source poverty" (those that are not covered by more conventional laser sources) may be accessed by using techniques governed by nonlinear optical processes.

Accessing these spectral "gaps" stimulates and aids research into interesting areas of the electromagnetic spectrum. Of particular interest is our latest research: THz parametric generation, as the THz region is an area of the spectrum that sufferers particularly form a lack of practical fundamental sources.
