PhD Opportunities
The group of academic staff and collaborators listed on this web site have available a number of PhD opportunities with four main themes - projects based mainly on low temperature experimental physics (A.P. Mackenzie & S.A. Grigera), projects with a stronger component of materials design and crystal growth (N. Kikugawa / A.P. Mackenzie), Angle Resolved Photoemission Spectroscopy of correlated electron metals (F. Baumberger) and theoretical physics (A.G. Green, C.A. Hooley and C.J. Pickard). Please contact the relevant project leader if you have interest.
We also draw candidates' attention to the broad range of funding opportunities available. SUPA Prize Studentships are available to outstanding applicants from all over the world, and pay full fees and maintenance stipend. Eight are available annually across the six SUPA physics departments in a competition advertised at www.supa.ac.uk. Our role in an EPSRC Portfolio Partnership also means that there is the possibility to fully fund (with maintenance stipend and fees) suitably qualified non-UK EU students, at the level of approximately one per year across our condensed matter physics effort. For UK students several fully-funded EPSRC studentships are typically available annually for condensed matter physics research.
