In 2004 our group was honoured to receive the top Daiwa Adrian Prize of
£15000 in recognition of our collaborative UK-Japanese work. The cited
researchers were Andy Mackenzie (UK team leader), Santiago Grigera, Rodolfo
Borzi, Robin Perry, Naoki Kikugawa, Christoph Bergemann (University of
Cambridge), Stephen Julian (formerly University of Cambridge, now
University of Toronto), Yoshi Maeno (Japanese team leader), Satoru
Nakatsuji (both Kyoto University), Shinichi Ikeda (formerly Kyoto
University now Nanoelectronic Research Institute Tsukuba) and Fumihiko
Nakamura (Hiroshima University).
The prize was presented by Lady Adrian at a ceremony at the Royal Society
in London in November 2004. The photo shows (from left to right) Ikeda,
Mackenzie, Perry, Lady Adrian, Maeno, Bergemann, Nakamura and
Kikugawa. Other team members were out of the country on that date and
unable to attend in person.
