The philosophy library
The Philosophy Departments have a class library in Edgecliffe, The Scores. Information about how the class library works can be found in the Philosophy library information leaflet.
Books that are listed on Saulcat with the classmarks 'Mor Phil' or 'Logic' are located in the Philosophy Department.
The library is mainly intended for use by Philosophy students and staff. If, however, there is no other location for this book within the University, please see the class librarian Shaun Darby.
New readers must register with the class librarian before borrowing any books.
Books in the philosophy departmental library are catalogued on a completely different system from the Main Library. Saulcat will give you bibliographic information on our more recent holdings, but not circulation nor classmark information.
Information for New Students:
When you enrol for a philosophy course, you will be given a library registration card which should be completed and handed back. If for some reason (e.g. late enrolment) students have not completed a registration card, please go and see the class librarian.
The library is in Room 107 - it works on a separate system from the Main Library, and it is to your advantage to get to know how it works. You will find information leaflets about the class library in the card catalogue cabinet in the recess.
The library's holdings and short loan system are geared towards the courses being taught in the Philosophy Departments. Many of the readings, especially at sub-honours level, have either a one- or three-day loan status. Both one and three day loan books may be reserved in advance in the library office. We also have multiple copies of many standard texts, and several journal titles. (These journal are not listed on Saulcat - details of journal holdings are located in the bottom right drawer of the card cabinet.) All journals have reference status, i.e. they are not to be borrowed.
