Scholarships

All applicants to the PhD Programme will be considered, following acceptance on to the Doctoral Programme, for a scholarship consisting of remission of Scottish and European fees. This will be awarded on a competitive basis.

 

AWARDS 2011-12

Kinga Tomczyk has received a Gibson-Sykora scholarship from the University of St Andrews for her PhD project on pishtacos, fat-extractors of the Neo-Colonial Andes (2012-2015).

Laura Obermuller, Pablo Garcia and Andreza De Souza Santos have received funding for fieldwork in Guyana, Chinchero (Cusco, Perú) and São Paulo (Brazil) from the Russell Trust

Carolina Borda has won a Wenner-Gren Scholarship for her PhD project on rural incest and mental illness in Chuquisaca, Bolivia (2011-2012).

Laura Obermuller has received funding for her research project from the Royal Geographical Society and the UK Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining.

 

AWARDS 2010-11
Two Santander Scholarships have been awarded for tenure September 2010-August 2013 to Carolina Borda and Pablo Ibañez.

Lucas Krokozynski was awarded a Wenner-Gren for his research with the Capanahua (lowland Peru).

AWARDS 2009-10

One three-year CAS bursary has been awarded for tenure Feb 2010 till Feb 2013:

Two 1-year CAS bursaries have been awarded for tenure in the academic year 2009-10 to
Cornelia Nell (Germany)
Giuseppe Ciancia (Italy)

Cornelia Nell has been awarded a Travel Grant by the National University of Ireland for her fieldwork in the Macha chawpirana (Bolivia).

Christopher Hewlett was awarded a Russell Trust and Wenner-Gren for his research with the Amahuaca (lowland Peru).

AWARDS 2008-9

Two 3-year CAS bursaries have been awarded for tenure in the academic year 2008-2011 to

Moises Lino e Silva
(Brazil)

AWARDS 2006–07

Two 3-year CAS bursaries were awarded to
Juan Pablo Sarmiento (Perú)
Juan Manuel Espinoza (Sweden/Bolivia)

Conrad Feather was awarded a grant by the Hans Rausing Endangered Languages Project for his work documenting Nahua mythology (Perú).
