Dr Jara Hulkenberg

Jara HulkenbergPost-doctoral research fellow funded by the Pacific Fund through the Prins Bernhard Cultuur Fonds in The Netherlands.

Prins Bernhard CultuurfondsCurrent research project: Life 'in the Fijian way' in transnational settings (Great Britain). The project examines how Fijians overseas are able to continue to live according to the Fijian way (vakaViti or vakavanua).

Special attention will be given to the establishment and confirmation of hierarchical kinship relations and associated obligations in ceremonial and daily life whilst living in Britain.

Dr Stephanie Garling

Stephanie GarlingHunt Postdoctoral Fellow, funded by The Wenner-Gren Foundation.

Garling is working on a monograph project titled 'Evolutions Or Revolutions? Interaction And Exchange At The Post-Lapita "Transition" In Island Melanesia', which investigates an elusive transformation in the archaeology of Island Melanesia in the closing centuries of the third millennium BP (ca. 2300–1900 cal BP).

Her research tracks interaction at this pivotal period through a variety of data sets: some orthodox in Pacific archaeology (the style and composition of pottery; obsidian; faunal remains), one novel (red ochre) and another under-utilized (rock-art).
