St Andrews from the Pier - taken by Nicole Judd

Entrance and Matriculation Process

Below you will find information of particular importance to entrant students, that is students who are matriculating (registering) at the University for the first time.

  • Step 1 - Computer and Email account

Open your computer account and activate your University email

Your university email address is yourusername@st-andrews.ac.uk. Your username is included in the entrant email.  You will set up your password when you open your account.

Once your email is activated you will be able to access it using SaintMail. You should check your University email frequently as official and academic communications will be sent to your University email address.

  • Step 2 - Pay your tuition fees

Find out about...

Please note that it is University policy not to send out invoices to students for payment of tuition as all the fee information is published on our webpages.

  1. Changes in fees
The University Court reserves the right to make changes in fees without notice at any time before or after a candidate's admission.

  2. Liability for tuition fees
Entrants should note that it is a condition of registration with the University that they accept liability for their tuition fees.

  • Step 3 - Apply for your student ID card

For information on applying for your student ID (matriculation) card see the ID cards page.

  • Step 4 - Students with a disability

Information for students with a disability or a learning difficulty.

  • Step 5 -  Online Matriculation

Online matriculation is step-by-step process that will guide you through the elements of registration required for you to become a St Andrews student.  Once you have been given access to online matriculation, an email will be sent to your University of St Andrews email account with instructions on how to access and complete the process.  It is important therefore that you have created your email account in advance as you will need this to access the online facility.

Once you have completed these steps you will be a fully-matriculated student of the University of St Andrews and ready to start your studies with us.
