New Undergraduate Students - September 2012

Evening Degree Entrants

St Andrews Castle - taken by Nicole Judd

Entrance and Matriculation Process

Before the start of Evening Degree teaching in September 2012 you must go through the matriculation (registration) process at the University.

Below are the 7 steps to be completed by entrant students, that is students who are matriculating (registering) at the University for the first time.

  • Step 1 - Computer and Email account

Open your computer account and activate your University email

Your University email address is yourusername@st-andrews.ac.uk.  Your username is included in the entrant email from Registry. You will set up your password when you open your account.

Opening, regularly checking and using your University email account is compulsory. You can check your email with SaintMail.

If you find you have problems with opening your computer account, don't worry.  Help is available from the IT Helpdesk or when you come for Matriculation on Saturday 8 September.

  • Step 2 - Arrange funding for your tuition fees

Ensure any funding is in place: see the fees information, available via the Evening Degree webpages or the information in your Evening Degree Welcome Pack (on Fee Waiver, Part-time Fee Grant, ILA200 etc.). Find out about paying fees and payment deadlines.

You will not be able to complete the matriculation process on Saturday 8 September unless you pay your fees, so please make these arrangements in good time.

Please note that it is University policy not to send out invoices to students for payment of tuition as all the fee information is published on our web pages.

  1. Changes in fees
The University Court reserves the right to make changes in fees without notice at any time before or after a candidate's admission.

  2. Liability for tuition fees
Entrants should note that it is a condition of registration with the University that they accept liability for their tuition fees.

  • Step 3 - Apply for your student ID card

Apply for your student ID (matriculation) card

You should be able to collect your card during the Study Essentials sessions or on Saturday 8 September at Matriculation.  This card is also your library borrowing card, and it is a swipe card which will give you access to University buildings, such as the open-access computer classrooms and the commuter students' room.

  • Step 4 - Disabilities

Information for students with a disability or learning difficulty.

  • Step 5 - Module choices

Most Evening Degree students will have discussed their choice of modules at interview and Letters of Offer should have confirmed these. For that reason, the Evening Degree Co-ordinator will pre-enter your module choices.

If you wish to change your modules, please contact Dr Nicky Haxell, Evening Degree Co-ordinator.

Matriculation (Saturday 8 September 2012)

Advising and Matriculation will take place on the morning of Saturday 8 September in the Gateway building. It is important that you have set up your computer and email account before you attend this event.

See the Map of University (PDF, 204 KB) for the location of the Gateway.

  • Step 6 - Advising

All students are required to see their Adviser at the start of their studies, at Advising (part of the matriculation process).  The Adviser for Evening Degree students is the Evening Degree Co-ordinator, Dr Nicky Haxell, who will check and validate your module choices to ensure they are appropriate.

  • Step 7 - Matriculation

On Saturday 8 September, after attending Advising, you will need to go on to the final step in the registration process, which is known as Matriculation.  Further details on Matriculation will follow.

The matriculation process includes completing Online Matriculation on Saturday 8 September. This process will guide you through the elements of registration required for you to become a St Andrews student.

You will need to bring with you (where applicable):

  • any letters from funding authorities indicating that your tuition fees will be paid or have been paid
  • the means to pay your fees (cheque, credit/debit card)
  • documents confirming your eligibility for the Fee Waiver and the Fee Waiver application form
  • documents confirming you have applied for the Part-time Fee Grant or ILA200

Matriculation brings the entrance process to an end.
