MU1004 Making Music

Semester 2

This module is designed for students who have already studied an instrument or singing would like to continue to play music at a high standard while at university. It supports students in improving their performance abilities while developing an understanding of the historical, analytical and aesthetic ideas related to musical performance. The module also offers opportunities to study composition and to perform as part of an ensemble. Students are required to present a short recital for examination and to complete related written work.

The pre-requisite for this module is a Grade 8 performance certificate (ABRSM or equivalent) or entry by audition. Students who wish to take this course in the second semester and require an audition are encouraged to organise this at the start of the first semester by signing up at the Music Centre Office in the Younger Hall. Students who require an audition before the start of Semester 2 should contact the module co-ordinator Sarah Sneddon
