Groups for players

The Music Centre organises a variety of different instrumental groups to provide a wide range of opportunity for enjoying playing with others. All of them welcome players from the local community as well as students and staff of the University. Some, such as the St Andrews Chamber Orchestra, hold auditions at the start of the year; however, most of our groups are open to all without audition. As well as our two orchestras, we organise ensembles specialising in particular periods of music (such as our Baroque Orchestra and Ensemble 2021, our contemporary music group) and particular instruments (such as our ensembles for flute and saxophone). We also offer two groups performing different styles of jazz: Big Band and Jazz Studio.

This year we have a number of new groups: a clarinet choir, percussion ensemble, brass ensemble and children's violin group. 

Members of all groups are required to become Music Centre members.  You only need to pay one membership fee regardless of how many groups you join!

There are also many other groups in St Andrews with which we have strong links.
