Ad Hoc Orchestra

The Ad Hoc Orchestra provides an opportunity to learn the basic principles of orchestral playing in an informal and relaxed atmosphere using some of the standard works of the orchestral repertoire and a mix of other music suitable for the group of players we have in any one year. The orchestra is directed by Leslie Stevenson and is open to players of all standards, whether or not connected with the university:

  • for relative beginners, or those who used to play an instrument and would like to start again
  • for less experienced orchestral players, perhaps as a stepping-stone to other orchestras
  • for more advanced players who would like to increase their knowledge of the repertoire and and improve their sight-reading

Rehearsals are on Sundays from 3 to 5pm in the Younger Hall, usually fortnightly.  Dates for autumn 2009 will be as follows:

4 & 18 October

1 & 22 November

13 December

Members of the orchestra are required to be Music Centre members and pay the appropriate membership fee. Please notify the Music Centre Office of your interest or just come to a rehearsal.
