Courses within the Music Centre

The Music Centre is the venue for a variety of one-off and on-going courses. The Academic Courses are validated by the university and/or other institution and can count towards a Higher Education Qualification.

Other Courses are of a more practical nature and usually relate directly to musical performance.

Many of our courses are given in association with St Andrews Extension Programmes.

Workshops and Master Classes

The Music Centre organises a number of workshops and masterclasses through the year.  Typically they are given by renowned musicians who cover a wide variety of practical and theoretical topics related to music.  Details of the events that are planned can be found in the Concerts and Events leaflet which is produced three times each year.

Over the past few years visitors to the Music Centre to give workshops have included Murray McLachlan (piano and piano accompaniment), John Wallace (brass), Miguel Bernat and Henri Bok (percussion), Linda Ormiston, Jane Irwin, Deborah Stewart and Julia Lynch (singing), Richard Ingham (jazz) and the Alba Quartet (chamber music).  Most recently, Davur Magnussen, an exceptionally talented trombonist from the RSAMD, gave an exciting masterclass in which four of our trombone students took part.  Peter Fisher (violin) and Peter Howlett (piano) also gave tuition in both solo violin and flute accompaniment.
