About the Music Centre

Welcome to the University of St Andrews Music Centre.  The Music Centre provides facilities for enjoying music in all its forms to all sections of the St Andrews community.  Situated in the Younger Hall, we offer facilities and opportunities for individual and group practice, tuition and performance, concert-going and formal academic training.

The Younger Hall is the largest public auditorium in the area and regularly hosts performances by professional and amateur musicians, including frequent visits by leading orchestras including the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. The Hall is also available at certain times to be hired for concerts or social functions.

As well as being the Music Centre for the University, we are also a major facility for the wider community. Most of our ensembles and groups are open to all and some are specifically designed for children. Beginners in all disciplines are most welcome, so if you have never had the opportunity to involve yourself in music in the past, do have a look at what we can offer.

The University of St Andrews currently validates the post-graduate degrees awarded by the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow. As a result, a close, practical relationship has developed in recent years between the Music Centre and the Academy. The Centre has enjoyed many concerts from Academy staff and students and has benefited from a variety of masterclasses and Studios. Some of our more advanced students have travelled to Glasgow for special tuition and to take part in particular classes or events.

You can find information about all of the facilities and opportunities that we offer in these pages.  In addition we publish a quarterly Concerts and Events leaflet which details all of the musical performances that we have planned.  If you would like to receive a regular copy, please join our publicity mailing list by contacting us at the Music Centre.
