Programme Duration: One year
Aim of Programme: This degree offers students the opportunity to proceed to higher study in areas they may not have been able to specialise in as undergraduates or to follow an interest in a specific period (e.g. mediaeval, nineteenth century, twentieth century), or to pursue their studies with a particular focus (e.g. gender, Austrian literature, linguistics, identity).
Programme Content: It consists of one core research skills module on the theory and practice of literary research, and optional modules on a range of topics including modern and medieval literature and culture, linguistics and film, for example Gender and German Writing, the Prussian Myth, German Film. ‘Special topics’ modules allow students to pursue their own interests in very small groups or by individual supervisions. The MLitt normally concludes with the writing of a dissertation of 15,000 words on an agreed topic.
