Entrance Requirements: A good degree with Honours from a UK university or its equivalent
Programme Duration: One year
Aim of Programme: This degree offers students from English-speaking and French-speaking universities the opportunity to develop their knowledge of French literature and culture through textual study and theoretical reflection, as well as archival and editorial work based on primary source material.
Programme Content: It consists of one core research skills module on the theory and practice of literary research, followed by modules drawn from one of three available pathways: (i) Early-Modern; (ii) Twenty-first century Literature and Theory; (iii) Non-specialist strand (a wide range of modules on topics such as language; advanced translation; Second World War; Perceptions of the Other). A Special Subject, for all pathways, is available in Semester 2, consisting of one-to-one supervision on an extremely wide range of potential topics to be agreed with individual members of staff. This programme offers the option of studying for a semester in France. The MLitt normally concludes with the writing of a dissertation of 15,000 words on an agreed topic.
