Research and Teaching

My research centres around the link between identity and space in modern and contemporary Italian literature, and more recently how corporeal and other extra-linguistic forms of expression are represented in current transnational, migration and border writing. Other areas of interest include Freudian and post-Freudian psychoanalytic literary theory, the idea of an 'Adriatic' literature (drawing comparative links between new Italian, Albanian and Greek writing in particular), and 20th and 21st century women's writing.

My DPhil thesis, Disrupted Narratives: Illness, Silence and Identity in Svevo, Pressburger and Morandini was published by Legenda last year as part of their Italian Perspectives series, and I am currently working on a new monograph entitled Bodies in Motion: Corporeality, Migration and Identity. This project will analyze how the body absorbs and expresses the possibility, significance and impact of acquiring a new transnational or global identity and how related corporeal reactions and expressions are subsequently represented in narrative terms.

This semester I will be teaching on 1st and 2nd year language and literature modules for the Italian department and contributing to the Comparative Literature modules 'Staging the Political' and 'Journeys'.
