Research and Teaching
My research focuses on nineteenth-century French literature, especially poetry. I am interested in questions of exoticism and nationalism, as well as pre-Freudian ideas of the unconscious. Having completed my doctoral thesis on the influence of German philosophy on the work of Jules Laforgue (a late nineteenth-century French poet) in 2011, I am currently working on adapting my thesis for publication as a monograph. I am also starting a new project dealing with the reception of Buddhism in nineteenth-century France. Other research interests include the nouveau roman, and I am teaching an Honours module on this subject, as well as sub-honours language and literature modules.
