Persian at St Andrews

PR1001 book Persian will be taught at St Andrews at undergraduate level for the first time starting this semester. PR1001 will be taught by Maryam Ghorbankarimi (mg91@st-andrews.ac.uk), whose PhD research is in film studies at the University of Edinburgh, focusing on the representation of women in the Iranian cinema of the 1990s. Maryam has successfully taught Persian language to postgraduates in the School of History at St Andrews for the last 4 years.

PR1001 will be taught at 1-2pm, Mondays to Fridays, in Buchanan Room 305.

PR1001 view Born and raised in Tehran, Iran, Maryam Ghorbankarimi moved to Canada in 2001 to continue her education in film at Toronto's Ryerson University. She is currently a PhD candidate in film studies at the University of Edinburgh in the UK and her research focus is on the representation of women in Iranian Cinema. Maryam is also a filmmaker and has made a number of short films, both fiction and documentary, which have been shown at festivals such as Montreal International Film Festival, Beijing International Short Film Festival, and Tehran International Short Film Festival. Her research interests include women, gender, and cinema, and in general the cinemas of the developing countries.
