The Department of Arabic offers Study abroad programmes with the American University in Cairo, Egypt and the Lebanese American University in Beirut, Lebanon.

American University in Cairo (AUC)

Description: The American University in Cairo was founded in 1919 and today is one of the key English-language universities in the region. It offers a curriculum rooted in liberal arts. There are around 5000 undergraduates and 1000 postgraduates registered at the AUC. The AUC opened a new state-of-the-art campus in 2008, moving from its downtown base to New Cairo, on the city outskirts.

Description: The Lebanese American University (LAU) is one of the leading higher education institutions in Lebanon and the Middle East. LAU is chartered by the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York. LAU is accredited by the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (CIHE–NEASC). In 2000 LAU established the Summer Institute for Intensive Arabic Language and Culture (SINARC). SINARC offers language and cultural immersion program that welcomes students from all over the world. SINARC offers courses in Arabic language and culture at various levels of proficiency. Each level provides twenty hours per week of intensive classroom instruction, including five hours per week of Lebanese Dialect. Formal language instruction is enriched by immersion in an authentic cultural context. Cultural activities include weekly lectures on topics related to Arab and Lebanese politics, history, society, and culture. In addition, students partake in a series of excursions to historical, cultural and tourist sites throughout Lebanon.
