Research and Teaching

Eleni Kefala's research focuses on twentieth-century Argentine literature and culture. She has published widely on the work of J. L. Borges and Ricardo Piglia, as well as on other authors from Latin America. Her 2007 monograph breaks new ground, studying postmodernity in two countries never before studied comparatively: Argentina and Greece. She is particularly interested in issues of cultural nationalism, postcolonial and decolonial thinking, and urban modernity. She teaches courses on areas from the historical avant-garde in the Southern Cone to representations of the urban in Argentine literature, art and film, and issues of national identity at undergraduate and postgraduate level. She also contributes to all levels of undergraduate co-taught courses, offering classes on J. L. Borges, Julio Cortázar, Gabriel García Márquez, Alejo Carpentier, Juan Rulfo, Ricardo Piglia and Cristina Peri Rossi.
