Research and Teaching
I have now focused my research on the Golden Age comedia, especially Calderón's cloak and dagger plays, and Spanish cinema, especially the development of narrative techniques, narratology.
In my time I have had to teach most aspects of a Spanish degree, from language for beginners to final year specialised translation, from the history of the language to contemporary cinema. At present I contribute to all core undergraduate Spanish modules, and to the following:
- SP5124/26 Spanish Cinema (co-ordinator)
- SP5201 Patterns in Hispanic Literature and Film
- ML5105 Europe and America: dialogues and identity formation in text, film and theory
- ML5201 Film and Issues of European Identity (co-ordinator)
Annually, I supervise PG MLitt/Phil dissertations on Golden Age Literature and Cinema, and currently one PhD: J R Holmes/Rutherford "Sites of Struggle: Representations of Family in Spanish Cinema (1996-2004)"
PhD Supervision
Vera Burgos-Hernandez
