Research and Teaching
My research interests centre on Renaissance literature and literary criticism, in particular on the theoretical debate regarding literary writing and the definition of linguistic and literary models, on the codification of exegetical and critical procedures, on the legacy of Humanism and on the importance and influence of Reformed thinking on the cultural and intellectual scenario of Renaissance Italy. My interests also include the early tradition of Italian lyric poetry (especially Dante), and manuscript and early printed books studies.
My teaching interests encompass the early period of Italian literature (the Scuola Siciliana, Dante, Petrarch, Boccaccio), Humanism and its foundations, and Renaissance literature in its various forms (prose, poetry and theatre), including authors like Castiglione, Machiavelli, Aretino, the Novellieri, Bembo, Ariosto, Tasso, Michelangelo and Cellini. I am particularly interested in the multiplicity and experimentalism of Renaissance literary production, and in the possibility of investigating its critical and cultural substance through a variety of creative means, especially as regards the problematic relationship of women and culture in the early modern period. However, my expertise also extends to modern authors, such as Foscolo, Leopardi, Verga, Svevo and Pirandello.
